MEMBERSHIP TYPES:
INDIVIDUAL: a Systems Administrator, whether currently so employed, previously so employed, in the process of learning the profession, or in an otherwise closely related position, entitled to vote in Guild elections.
ASSOCIATE: a Systems Administrator, whether currently so employed, previously so employed, in the process of learning the profession, or in an otherwise closely related position but ineligible for Individual membership for various reasons. (i.e. Non-Australian residency status or not directly System Administration related). This class of membership is not entitled to vote in Guild elections.
STUDENT: a full-time student, whether interested in or in the process of learning about or becoming a System Administrator. Proof of full-time studies must accompany the membership application. This class of membership is not entitled to vote in Guild elections and may not be eligible for all sponsor/supporter discounts.
PLEASE NOTE: Applications for student membership will not be processed unless full-time student verification status is supplied with application.
Student Memberships are only valid for full time students enrolled in Australian Educational institutions that appear on the AQF Register. You can still be resident overseas, but must be enrolled in an Australian institution. If you are interested in becoming a member and are not eligible for a Student membership you may want to consider the benefits of becoming an Associate member instead.
SAGE-AU is the Australian professional society for system administrators. As such, we are specifically oriented towards individual membership rather than institutional membership. Whilst we are very happy to have companies sponsor their employee's membership into SAGE-AU, it is an important distinction that the actual membership belongs to that individual, and is not controlled by the employer, nor transferable between staff.
MEMBERSHIP AWARDS:
We also operate a very popular awards programme, to recognise those who contribute both to the success of the guild, and to the success of the profession. Our three tiers of rewards are:
PRIMARY AWARD
Services to the System Administration Profession: To recognise outstanding work amongst system administrators world-wide.
SECONDARY AWARDS
Outstanding SAGE-AU Region of the Year: For this award, the committee looks at many things, including regular, well-run meetings, membership growth, positive feedback from members, guest speaker selection and a wider involvement in SAGE-AU.
Outstanding Contribution to the Mailing Lists: The award committee accepts membership nominations for this award; citing regular posts answering questions, general helpfulness, good summarisation back to list, and displaying a professional attitude to posts.
TERTIARY AWARDS
Services to SAGE-AU: This award recognises the commitment many individuals make to help SAGE-AU operate efficiently.
SAGE-AU Highly Commended: This award is designed to recognise those amongst us who deserve special recognition for their tireless work and assistance to the industry, as nominated by their peers.
Award winners can be found here.
MEMBERSHIP FAQ's:
Q: How do I update my email address for the mailing lists?
A: To change your email address for the mailing lists, you must change your email address in your personal details, accessible through the SAGE-AU Member Site
Q: How do I subscribe and unsubscribe from mailing lists?
A: Go to our list of mailing-lists for instructions on subscribing and unsubscribing from the SAGE-AU mailing lists.
Q: Can I transfer my membership to another person?
A: SAGE-AU memberships are individual memberships, and as such they cannot be transferred to another person.
Q: How do I update my personal details?
A: Go to the SAGE-AU Member Site or contact the SAGE-AU Administration Office.
Q: I haven't received a renewal notice yet - where is it?
A: Renewal notices are emailed to the email address we have in the database against your name one month before your membership expires, one week before your membership expires and on the day your membership expires. Either the renewal notice is being sent to the wrong email address (if you haven't kept it updated) or it has got lost in the huge number of emails sent daily on the mailing lists.
If you need to update your email address please see 'How do I update my personal details (address, etc)? above - please also contact the SAGE-AU office. If you suspect the renewal notice may have been overlooked, you may wish to set up email filters in order to make sure you see these messages.
The automated emails will be sent from the account "SAGE-AU MemberSite" with the subject tag of [SAGE-AU NOTIFY]. If you can filter on either or both of these pieces of information you should hopefully not miss future incoming renewal notices.
If for any reason you believe you have not received your renewal email, please contact the SAGE-AU Administration Office so that we can ensure there are no email delivery problems. Remember that if you require an invoice before renewal simply contact the SAGE-AU Administration Office to organise one to be sent out.
Q: How do I renew my membership electronically?
A: For credit card renewals, please use the online renewal service on the SAGE-AU Member Site under 'Details'. This service is only available for current members. If your membership has expired and you wish to renew, you should complete a membership application and note that you are a past member in the 'Where did you hear about SAGE-AU' portion.
Q: I mailed my renewal/application form in weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet. Why not?
A: Memberships are usually processed immediately upon receipt of the application. If you haven't received confirmation of your membership, please contact the SAGE-AU Administration Office.
Q: What is my SAGE-AU username and password?
A: By default your user name is your first and last initials (in lower case) followed by your membership number - for example, Joe Citizen, with a membership number of 0000, would have the username "jc0000". Your password (as at joining) is your keyring number. Your password can be changed to something you can easily remember via the SAGE-AU Member Site.
Q: I've changed my password and forgotten it - how do I get it reset?
A: On the login page to the SAGE-AU Member Site you will find a forgotten password link. If you continue to have problems, please contact the SAGE-AU Administration Office.
Q: My keyring is lost/broken - can I have a new one?
A: Contact the SAGE-AU Administration Office and a new keyring will be sent to you, with your member site password reset to the new keyring number.
Q: I live overseas - can I be a member of SAGE-AU?
A: Yes - you will be classified as an Associate member which means you can't vote in Guild elections but otherwise your membership is the same as the full memberships offered to Australian residents. You also are not required to pay Australian GST so please adjust your membership/renewal fee accordingly.
Q: Can I link to the SAGE-AU Web site?
A: If you would like to link to the SAGE-AU site we encourage you to use the HTML code provided on our Link to SAGE-AU page (you must be logged in as a member to see this page)
